Supreme Court: Sentenced Rev King to Death by Hanging

The Supreme court today, Friday, deliver its final verdict on Reverend Chukwuemeka Ezeugo, alias Rev King to be sentenced to death by hanging.
 
King, the General Overseer, Christian Praying Assembly (CPA), who was charged to court by the Lagos state government on September 26th 2006 on a six-count charge of attempted murder and murder of one of his members, Ann Uzoh on August 2nd 2006.
 
Justice Joseph Oyewole of the Lagos State High Court, Ikeja, who had on January 11th 2007 sentenced him to death by hanging, is now a judge of Appeal Court sitting in the Calabar division.
However, the apex court presided over by Justice Walter Onoghen adjourned till today to give judgment after listening to arguments from counsel to prosecution and defence in the matter.
 
Lagos State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Adeniji Kazeem, who appeared before the Apex Court alongside Mrs. Idowu Alakija, the Director of Public Prosecution and other Senior Counsel in the State, urged the court to dismiss the appeal and uphold the judgment of the lower court.
 
Ezeugo was convicted and sentenced to 20 years imprisonment for the attempted murder and death by hanging for the offence of murder.
Not satisfied, he challenged the verdict before the Court of Appeal in Lagos, but the appeal was thrown out. Still not satisfied, he then approached the Supreme Court, and urged that the judgment be upturned.
