Police detains Peace Corps boss, Dickson Akoh again

The Nigeria Police,  on Sunday , detained the National Commandant of Peace Corps of Nigeria, Amb. (Dr.) Dickson Akoh. Akoh, who had just arrived Abuja from where he has been receiving traditional treatment for ulcer and pile, decided to turn himself in, at the FCT Command of the Nigeria police, after been told that the police were looking for him. A source at the Commandant headquarters disclosed that, Akoh arrived at about  5.40pm , where he had a meeting with the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of CID, officer in charge of the SARS and DC of SARS. No reason has been given for this latest arrest as Journalists were turned back by the Police at CID Headquarters, saying the DC CID just stepped out of office. The Officers of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) also fired gunshots on the air to dispatch Journalists who had besieged the office where Akoh is being held. Saraki Says Magu’s Rejection Not Based On DSS Report

Senate President Bukola Saraki has claimed that the Senate did not reject the acting Chairman of the EFCC, Mr. Ibrahim Magu, because of a damning report issued by the Department of State Services which questioned Magu’s integrity. Saraki said this in an interview with TVC News in Morocco where he attended an African summit on climate change and food security. The Senate President was reacting to a claim by a former Senate Majority Leader, Ali Ndume, who said last week that it was hypocritical of the Senate to allow Saraki to continue in office because he was in court to defend corruption allegations. Ndume had argued that the Senate should not have rejected Magu based on unproven allegations. Saraki said, “You are jumping into conclusion that he (Magu) was rejected because of the accusation. Woman and baby allegedly brutalized by Nigeria Policemen for not bribing them

Policemen in Ado Ekiti, Ekiti State,  on Friday  brutalised and detained a woman, Mrs. Toyin Adeyeye, her two month-old baby, Heritage and her younger brother, Adeniyi Dada, for allegedly refusing to give bribe at a police checkpoint. It was learnt that about five policemen descended on them and beat them mercilessly before taking them to New Iyin Police Station where the beating continued. The incident happened at the checkpoint in front of Ekiti Pavilion, a few metres from the residence of the Commissioner of Police, Abdullah Chafe. Mrs. Adeyeye returned from the United States of America 10 days earlier where she was delivered of the baby. Single mother caught stealing with Charm in Lagos

A single mother, Ayobami Ojo, who reportedly prepared a native charm, which she used to steal from people, has been arrested after the charm failed her. The Oyo State-born woman was arrested where she used the charm to steal from a shop owner, Mrs Olatade Olubukola at 18 Mufutau Adeyemi Street, Orelope in Idimu area of Lagos. Ms. Ojo who had reportedly used the charm to steal from more than 30 victims, as usual went to Olubukola demanding that she should give her the sum of N13,000, though Olubukola gave her the money, but when Ms. Ojo was walking away thinking that her charm has worked, Olubukola confronted her. She reportedly attempted to escape by invoking her charm to silent Olubukola, but the charm failed her. This made the shop owner to raise an alarm which attracted the neighbours who apprehended the suspect . This is terrible mehn! Prophet Godwin Emmanuel, the founder and head pastor of a Benin-based pentecostal church, Love Fire Ministry, has been assassinated by unknown gunmen. Kaduna State House of Assembly denies impeachment rumour on El-Rufai

The Kaduna State House of Assembly has debunked speculations going on in the social media of plans to impeach the state Governor, Nasir El-Rufai. A statement signed by the chairman, House committee on Information, Nuhu Goro Shadalafiya described the report as false, malicious and fabricated lies. According to the statement, “The message is to the effect that some members of the Kaduna House of Assembly met over the weekend on the possible impeachment of Governor El-rufai over what the lawmakers termed as impeachment offences.” It emphasized that there had never been a time when the house commenced any process of impeaching the Governor. While warning perpetrators to desist from further acts or face the wrath of the law, the House stressed that, “The Kaduna state House of Assembly has totally disassociated itself from the speculation.”

Buhari writes National Assembly for additional $500m Eurobond

President Muhammadu Buhari has written to the National Assembly seeking for another $500 million Eurobond to finance capital projects in the 2016 Budget. This was revealed on Wednesday during the Senate plenary. Senate had earlier in the year approved a $1 billion Eurobond requested by Buhari, also for the financing of the 2016 Budget. Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, had  requested for the same amount  while Buhari was away on vacation. Details later..

Ibrahim Magu, acting chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), has vowed to continue fighting corruption whether he is confirmed head of the anti-graft agency or not. The Senate on Wednesday rejected the nomination of Magu, anchoring its reason on a report from the Department of State Services (DSS). Magu was said to have ‘failed integrity test.’ But speaking with members of some civil society organization in Abuja shortly after his rejection, Magu said the rejection had not changed his priority to fight corruption. “My priority is to fight corruption. Nigerian Senate rejects Magu as EFCC Chairman

The Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, on Wednesday, refused to confirm Mr. Ibrahim Magu as the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). President Muhammadu Buhari had late last year submitted the name of Mr. Magu to the Senate, for confirmation as substantive Chairman of EFCC, having served in acting capacity since November, 2015. President Buhari, however, resubmitted Magu’s name on the 23rd of January, 2017, after consulting with the leadership of the Senate. The Senate however, turned down his confirmation, citing security reports as reason why it would not go ahead to confirm Magu. The Senate on Wednesday declared that its rejection of the Acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Ibrahim Magu, means that the anti-graft boss has lost his capacity to remain in office. This was disclosed by the Senate spokesman, Abdulahi Sabi, after plenary on Wednesday afternoon. He insisted that the report of the Department of State Services, DSS, was adopted by the Senate. Sabi said no one who failed such integrity test would be confirmed by the Senate. “The rejection of Magu by the Senate signifies that he cannot continue in acting capacity.‎ “We did not confirm him. He failed the integrity test”, he said. Sabi said some senators who were backing Magu’s confirmation backed out because of his poor performance during plenary.

Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello, has approved the appointment of 63 aides to various offices in his administration. A statement on Tuesday by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Mrs. Ayoade Folashade Arike, in Lokoja, said the appointments were effective from 1st of April, 2017. The rationale for the additional appointees at the state level, the statement explained, is to “plug identified gaps in service delivery, fill key positions with the right people and to broaden inclusiveness in governance by bringing people from more communities on board.” It said in addition to the 54 Senior Special Assistants appointed, nine Special Assistants to the Governor as Federal Constituency Supervisors for the GYB Connect Programme has also been approved. The statement said the appointment is to recognise and encourage outstanding contributions to the New Direction Agenda. It added that the nine Special Assistants will also act as direct liaisons between the present administ
