Actor Idris Elba left his second wife 'heartbroken' when their secret marriage ended just four months after they tied the knot in Las Vegas, it has been reported. Ondo governorship poll: Party exco shuns senator Alasoadura

The chances of a senator representing Ondo Central senatorial district of Ondo State, Senator Tayo Alasoadura of clinching the ticket of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the November 26 governorship election are now slim following the refusal of some party chieftains to attend a meeting convened by the senator. Alasoadura was said to have convened a meeting with party executives in Akoko North East local government and likely delegates about his ambition but was shocked that only few of them attended the meeting. Manchester City triumphed over Liverpool 3-1 on penalties, to win the Capital One Cup on Sunday, after the game finished 1-1 on extra-time. Fernandinho opened scoring for City, before Coutinho levelled with a few minutes of regulation time left. The governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Rivers State during the 2015 elections, Dakuku Peterside has blamed the State Governor Nyesom Wike for the recent escalation of violence in the state. Dakuku also accused the current administration of lacking the commitment to find a solution to the alarming rate of militancy and cult-related activities in the state. A former Minister of Interior, Abba Moro, will be arraigned today, (Monday) before Justice Anwuli Chikere of the Federal High Court Abuja. Moro, who has been in the EFCC custody for almost a week will answer to charges of abuse of procurement process and diversion of public funds preferred against him and four others by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC. The commission had slammed 11-count charge against him and four others for allegedly collecting N676.6 million from 676,675 job seekers in the fatal Nigerian Immigration Service recruitment exercise in 2014.   Moro, a permanent secretary in the ministry at the time, Anastasia Daniel-Nwobia, a deputy director in the ministry, F. Supreme Court: Sentenced Rev King to Death by Hanging

The Supreme court today, Friday, deliver its final verdict on Reverend Chukwuemeka Ezeugo, alias Rev King to be sentenced to death by hanging.   King, the General Overseer, Christian Praying Assembly (CPA), who was charged to court by the Lagos state government on September 26th 2006 on a six-count charge of attempted murder and murder of one of his members, Ann Uzoh on August 2nd 2006.   Justice Joseph Oyewole of the Lagos State High Court, Ikeja, who had on January 11th 2007 sentenced him to death by hanging, is now a judge of Appeal Court sitting in the Calabar division. The Federal Government has called for the abolition of visa requirement among Developing Eight (D-8) member Countries, which are  Nigeria, Bangladesh, Egypt, Indonesia, Iran, Malaysia, Pakistan and Turkey. The Senate has instituted a probe into the activities of DSTV owned by the South African based Multichoice Africa, in Nigeria. At the plenary session yesterday February 24th, the Senators expressed dissatisfaction over the services of the company when Senator Isah Hamma Misau (APC, Bauchi Central) sponsored a motion tagged, "Unwholesome practices of Multichoice Nigeria (DSTV). Senate Ethics, Privileges and Public Petitions has recommended the suspension of Senator Kabiru Marafa (APC, Zamfara Central) over his verbal attack on the national assembly. Marafa had openly backed the comment by former President Olusegun Obasanjo that the nation’s legislature was corrupt. Marafa, who shunned an invitation by the committee to defend his utterance, had boasted that he cannot be suspended from the Senate on account of his outburst.   It would be recalled that chairman of the committee, Senator Samuel Anyanwu (PDP, Imo East) had on Tuesday submitted the report of the committee on Marafa’s probe. President Jonathan’s ADC sues EFCC, demands N100m damages

Col. Ojogbane Adegbe, an Aide de Camp (ADC) to the former President, Goodluck Jonathan, has dragged the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to court to challenge his alleged detention. Adegbe, in the suit filed at the Federal High Court through his Counsel, Chief Ogwu Onoja (SAN), is claiming N100 million damages for his detention which violated his fundamental rights. Onoja urged the court to declare that his client’s arrest and continued detention by the EFCC since Feb. 11, was unconstitutional and violated his right to personal liberty guaranteed by the 1999 Constitution. He urged the court to make an order directing EFCC to immediately release the applicant from unlawful detention.   Onoja argued that the arrest and detention of Adegbe by the EFCC violated his right to personal liberty and freedom of movement guaranteed by Section 35 and 41 of the 1999 Constitution. A 72-year-old man on Saturday married his 60-year-old lover who had been living with him for 45 years. The couple were married at a mass wedding at a church, Omega Power Ministries, in Port Harcourt. According to the church’s post, the wedding ceremony which was financed by the church involved 140 other couples who had lived together for many years without being properly married. 18 year old boy facing death penalty for killing his mum's abusive boyfriend

18 year old Treveon Jones has been charged with murder and is facing death penalty if found guilty. According to police report, Treveon attacked and killed his mum's abusive live-in-lover in Houston, Texas after he caught the man, 40 year old Frederick Wallace, brutally attacking his mom in front of his two brothers.  Treveon was said to have been alerted about the beating going on in a parking lot and he took a friend and a gun with him. When he saw the condition his mother was in, he first physically attacked the man then shot him multiple times with a semi-automatic rifle... Eye-witnesses called police and Treveon was arrested. Authorities say the woman had suffered domestic abuse from Wallace for years but Treveon shouldn't have taken the law into his hands.

Fresh disease outbreak kills 25 children in Lekki

Jide Idris, the Lagos state commissioner of health, has confirmed the death of 25 children as a result of an outbreak of the Febrile Rash Illnesses (FRI) in Otodo-Gbame community in Ikate, Lekki. At a news conference in Lagos, the commissioner confirmed that there were 34 cases of sick children with FRI and added that the graves of 20 children have been identified by their parents. “The graves of 20 children who died from the FRI since the day of onset of signs and symptoms in the first case on January 6 were identified by their parents.   “Also, 34 cases have been line listed so far with 17 males and 17 females; 17 dead patients have been identified with nine males and eight females, all are within the age range of eight and 72 months,” Idris said. “The source of the infection is still under investigation and until we know the required source, we cannot say for sure, what is causing it.” The unknown disease disease, which started sometime in January 2016, made the predo

Kaduna State University gutted by fire

A section of the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) center of the Kaduna State University (KASU), Kaduna has erupted in flames, while some students were making use of the facility. The fire, which started about 11:45 am lasted for about one hour   forty-five minutes, destroying computers, server, props and other internet equipment worth millions of Naira. However, no casualty was recorded from the incident. Although the cause of the fire is yet to be discovered, some sources said the fire could have been as a result of electrical fault, while others believed it could be a sabotage because the center recently took delivery of new equipment and that it could be a cover up for a shoddy deal or theft.   Those who were there during the fire outbreak observed that smoke was still coming out from the building as men of the Kaduna State Fire Service tried to prevent the fire from engulfing the other sections of the ICT center.
