Tinubu, Atiku reportedly plan to form new political party

National Leader of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Ahmed Bola Tinubu and former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar are reportedly considering floating a new party ahead of the 2019 general elections, Daily Trust reports. The report quoted a source as saying both Tinubu and Atiku are unhappy with the presidency but do not want to come out openly on it. Tinubu’s anger with the Presidency started after the running mate to the party’s late governorship candidate, Prince Abubakar Audu, James Faleke, was subsequently replaced with the incumbent governor, Yahaya Bello. Other issues according to the source include, leadership crises at the National level and the Ondo election that saw the   emergence of former President of the Nigerian Bar Association, NBA, Rotimi Akeredolu, SAN, as the party’s candidate in the upcoming governorship election in the state . The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has refuted the allegation by Jimoh Ibrahim that its official demanded for $1m bribe before his name could be inserted as the ‘authentic’ candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party for the November 26 governorship election in Ondo State. The electoral body in a statement by its National Commissioner in charge of Publicity, Mr. Adedeji Soyebi, in Abuja on Monday, ‎said the Acting Director, Legal Services Mrs. Toyin Babalola never at any point asked for bribe as alleged by Ibrahim. Ibrahim, one of the claimants to the ticket of the PDP   for the election, had claimed that Babalola asked for $1m bribe from him, before the order made by Justice Okon Abang of the Federal High Court, Abuja Division, could be complied with by the commission. Dr. Reuben Abati, media adviser to former President Goodluck Jonathan has been arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC. The prominent columnist is still with the operatives of the EFCC as at Monday evening, Premium Times reports. The arrest may not be uncconnected to the funds released by the Office of the National Security Adviser, under retired Colonel Sambo Dasuki.

FG may increase fuel price as NNPC says N145 not sustainable

The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, has said it can no longer sustain the sale of petrol at N145 per litre. Recall that Labour last month warned against increment in pump price. Speaking yesterday, Group General Manager, Crude Oil Marketing of the NNPC, Mele Kyari, said with the current price of foreign exchange, it was no longer feasible selling petrol at N145 per litre The NNPC official told newsmen at this year’s Oil Trading and Logistics Expo, holding in Lagos that “We have a very difficult business environment. Price of rice to fall before November – Audu Ogbeh

The Federal Government has announced that the price of rice would start to fall from November this year. The Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Chief Audu Ogbeh, made this disclosure on Monday while addressing members of the Senate Committee on Agriculture and Rural Development at the headquarters of the ministry in Abuja. According to Ogbeh, the government could not be involved in the importation of rice as speculated in some quarters, adding that his ministry would not encourage rice importation because it would be detrimental to local production. He said the Federal Government was against rice smuggling and noted that the Seme border had become a notorious route for smuggling of contraband products into the country. “We will not encourage rice importation and there is no way our ministry or government can be involved in importing rice when we are working hard to be self-sufficient in local production. A woman named Shola, mother of two based in Akure, Ondo state capital accused her husband of been a bastard cheater, it all started when Shola proceeded in her education at one private polytechnic in   Ilawe, Ekiti state where she made two school friends Pelumi and Benita.
