Police detains Peace Corps boss, Dickson Akoh again

The Nigeria Police, on Sunday, detained the National Commandant of Peace Corps of Nigeria, Amb. (Dr.) Dickson Akoh.
Akoh, who had just arrived Abuja from where he has been receiving traditional treatment for ulcer and pile, decided to turn himself in, at the FCT Command of the Nigeria police, after been told that the police were looking for him.
No reason has been given for this latest arrest as Journalists were turned back by the Police at CID Headquarters, saying the DC CID just stepped out of office.
The Officers of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) also fired gunshots on the air to dispatch Journalists who had besieged the office where Akoh is being held.
Addressing newsmen on the development, the Corps Public Relations Officer, Patriot Millicent Umoru, confirmed the detention of the National Commandant, Akoh.
“He just returned from his village this afternoon and was told that the Police came to look for him on Friday. He decided to visit the Police Commissioner to know why they were looking for him, then the DC CID ordered that he should be detained.
“Let it also be known that, there was one Police officer who goes by the name, ‘Abdullahi’, ranting and threatening that he would kill Dickson Akoh, in the presence of the DC CID and others.
“As I speak to you, if anything happens to Dickson Akoh, the Police and Mr. Abdullahi should be held responsible”, Umoru said.
The Corps, however, got a judgement against the Nigerian Police and DSS on Thursday, 17th March, when Justice Gabriel Kolawole gave 12 day ultimatum that the National and zonal offices of Peace Corps should be unsealed.
